removing LF axle V70-XC70 1999

Yes, the caliper and rotor must be removed, hang the caliper from the strut with wire. You'll need someone to apply the brake while you remove the 22mm retaining nut. The lower control arm ball joint must be separated from the steering knuckle to allow the steerng assembly to swing out to allow the axle to come out (it won't come out the back).

This is not a bad job, but I highly recommend buying a Haynes manual first. The 1993-1997 850 manual can be used for this job and a lot of others, since the S/V70's are similar mechanically (S/V70 Haynes is not available).
