PNP Replacement - Alignment (First to admit getting it wrong ??- Long Message) 850 1995

OK, it appears from all the messages I've read regarding PNP replacement and alignment (w/o the alignment tool) that I'm the first one to (at least admit) get mine off a bit. I posted earlier that I replaced my PNP and everything (including going through gears, reverse lights, starting etc.) was fine but it would not start from neutral after the replacement.

Today after work, I got curious and put the thing in neutral and tried to start it - nada; moved the lever up slowly with the key in the start position and nada again; then moved the lever down ever so slightly below neutral (having to grab release behind the shifter going from neutral to drive - key in the start position again) and guess what, it starts. Geeze after all that work it appears I screwed up. Gonna get it lined up correctly this weekend but the thought of yanking a lot of that sh#t out again is frustrating. Most likely being anal about this but I don't want it to haunt me down the road by being off a bit and one day not having it start from Park OR Neutral.

I'm writing this as an FYI to others since I had a couple of warnings this could happen (1) somebody said to do a continuity check between #6 and #7 pins while in Neutral to get things right, which I did, and the meter read 1.00 (open circuit and stupid me - only 1 person had this approach which was my reasoning for letting it go). (2) should have done a reverse light check while leaving the bolts loose to adjust the PNP once most things were together and I didn't do that as well. However, I had two smaller metal rulers I used and it seemed to line up but the angle looking above must have been off.

Sorry for the run-on but wanted to share my experience with others which is the reason why we're on Brickboard. Rich, your Bay 13 instructions were fabulous!!! Thanks!!! As always, thanks to this forum for all the info!!!
