salt on carpet removal 850

Does anyone have any tricks for getting the road salt out of there interior carpets? I have a thick rim of salt that lies in the permanant carpet around the top edge of the winter floor mats and cannot remove it. Once the water evaporated it left the salt encrusted pretty damn good.

any products, or home made ideas?
