V70 Tire Rub - Steering rack limiters V70-XC70 2001

I have a V70 T5 with the 17inch wheels. I keep having to return it to the shop to have the steering end stops adjusted to prevent the tires rubbing on the wheel arches. That solution lasts for a month at the most.

Volvo have offered to fix the problem by adding a limiter to the steering rack to prevent the wheels from turning too far. Has anyone had this done? If so what is the effect on turning radius? I'm fed up with the grinding noise, but don't want to start backing up every time I go round a traffic circle!
