Chris-
Don't lose any sleep over it. Both oils are in the same viscosity range at operating temperatures. A 5W- will pump up faster in cold than will a 10W-, but in your climate it won't be very noticeable. Either will be fine, and you can add either as makeup oil.

I use AMSOIL Series 2000 0W-30 in all 4 of my cars, and have a 3 daughters using the same stuff.
