'01 V70 Turning Radius Problems -- decision time V70-XC70

Could this be a side effect of the newer transmissions in the 2001-on Volvo's? It is not just the 5 cylinder engine, since the 850 5 cylinder only needs one foot more to turn versus the 740 / 960. I know our '98 XC takes more room also, but I think that is due to the AWD, since the engine and trans. are essentially the same as the 850.
