ETM/Oil Seperator fouling cause-- Crankase oil quality issue?

I have noticed a recent increase in postings on the following issues;
ETM cleaning related to idle speed variations.
Excessive crankcase pressure resulting in oil leaks due to clogged oil seperators and PCV orifices.

I speculate that these problems may be due to the volatility of some oils and other quality related oil issues, including lengthened change intervals. After all, where else is all this carbon coming from, building up on the intake side and in the PCV related areas.
Further, Volvo just issued a TSB related to these cleanings, relating them to short driving distances. #0035 04 02
It seems to me that saving oil cost is a losing proposition and I will continue to use the best oil I can buy. For me this used to be Mobil-1 and now that is Amsoil synthetic. Amsoil does brag about their low volatility on their site.

I have no connection to either company and just looking for other's thoughts on this.
