850 shift shock! 850 1994

Wondering if anyone had experienced or remedied shift shock in the 850 ATM. Symptoms are as follows. When warm and travelling a distance at a brisk pace, when I apply the brakes (harder the braking the harder the shift) at traffic light, the shift down is quite noticeable in the pedal from 2-1st gear, sometimes audible, then when alighting from the lights again there seems no initial power to the drive wheels, then bang it kicks the first gear, sometimes of course skidding the front wheels depending on how much acellerator I gave it. I have read posts on the ATF exchange and was wondering if you all had had similar symptoms as this prior to change. The ATF level is fine a little brownish, and a change isn't going to kill me, but I wanted to make sure the benefits were there, or am I looking at major surgery to the tranny?!

Cheers
OZ
