Reset radio from OFF??? 850 1993

Just to make sure I understand. I turn everything off, but the radio, in order for it to show OFF, it must actually be on - I have to push the power button or there is no display. So, the radio is powered on so the OFF displays, right?

After waiting the time, will the display change from OFF to codE, or do I then have to power off and on again to get codE to appear, or do I enter the code while the OFF appears?

Sorry to sound so dense, but I want to get this thing to work!
