clutch ?? 850

My 93 850 5 sp has 100k on it , for a while my clutch has been groaning
going into first while cold, chatters in reverse, and engages
high in the up stroke, no slipage yet,

I called a local indy about replacing it, he was surpirsed to hear
it need a clutch so soon, he had customers cars with 200k on the origianl
clutch, the car is not abused

is there any adjustments that can made to the clutch or are all these
symtoms a sure sign of a new one,

I found a clutch kit on eeuroparts.com for $210.00
