Air pump question V70-XC70 1998

Welcome to the club. I went through two of these already. The first was under warranty. The second was last spring due to failed bearings. Just this past winter it froze up again with only a few drops of water in a bad location. I have now drilled holes in the bottom of the housing to prevent this from happening again. My checkvalve works fine and has been replaced. This is just a poor design and will haunt all of us who have these pumps until the day we sell our cars (and by Subaru WRXs :} ?!
