Sounds silly but...
Have you had any panic stops lately? If so, check for flat spots on the tires, even with ABS, sometimes a flat spot develops.
Ask the mechanic to check the tires for proper balance (check tire prssure also). Have him check the tie rod ends and all steering linkage.
While he's there, ask him to check the struts, bearings, CV booths and joints.
