Does anyone else have a loose steering wheel? S80

I bought my S80 T6 used, and it has always had what I consider VERY loose steering, I have about 3/4" - 1" of play in it. I have asked several different people to take a look at the front end to see if anything was worn out, but I am always told that nothing needs replacement, and that there is no way to get into the steering box. Does everyone's car feel like this? It is really a pain at highway speeds, because it takes that much longer to make corrections needed from uneven road conditions. That is the practical point of view, but from the other side of the fence, it just is not as much fun to drive with it like that. It makes spirited driving a lot more SPIRTIED than it should be. Any help/input would be great.
