oh yes one side is better,

if you take it out AND then you get a backfire (ok not common but...) you can granade the engine...thats one written off engine...not to mention how much fun that might be if you were moving at the time...

no I admit that backfires arn't common, and that it would really only be a problem if you also had large amounts of vapour in the crank (eg after a cold start...) but for the pennies they cost and the ease of fitting is it REALLY worth the risk...

IMHO they are ommitted by LAZY techs that just cant be bothered fitting them...and this is LARGELY a legacy of some of the b230 engines where they are a PITA to get to (b230e for example where you have to - sensibly - remove the large rubber bellows first)b230f I can do faster than you can fill the car with gas!

in short if they wern't needed i doubytvolvo would have fitted them for YEARS and they are a SAFETY device..most people drive bricks for safety...so why make yours less safe?
