small intermittent high-pitched sound V70-XC70 1999

I bought a nice low mileage '99 XC a week ago and it occasionally emits a small high-pitched electronic sound, very much like the feedback sound from getting a live microphone too near a loudspeaker. It is not loud and at first I thought it was my imagination. I have only noticed it in highway driving. It may do it several times in the space of a minute and then not do it again for a day or two. Any insights? Thanks!
