2000 S40 - Check Engine Light S40-V40

People,

I have a 2000 S40. I'm right at 30,500 miles. Last week, the Check Engine light came on on Thursday. Friday my (original equipment) battery finally went dead. I put a new battery in and it's running fine.

So, my questions:

1) Does a low battery trigger the check engine light?
2) Is the check engine light on because 30,000 miles is some sort of milestone?
3) Is there some way for me to find out what is causing the check engine signal and can I possibly reset it?

Any information or advice you folks could share would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks in advance!

- Harold
