Emmission system service - Check engine warning

dstrang

Do you fill the tank and stop when the pump clicks off or do you fill it all the way up to the top of the neck ?

I think if you fill all the way up to the neck opening you don't allow the venting tube and pump to operate correctly. The emissions checking system will pump up the tank and since it is filled with gas all the way, it causes problems. I think I said that right. Try filling the tank and allow the gas pump to shut off and don't top off the tank. See if that works first.

Actually somehow I think a vacuum exists when you top it off thus not allowing fuel to the injectors when you start the car.

Anyway try it. It's the cheapest check.

Let us know.
