buying an 850 850

I always say I hate front wheel drive and that I will stick to the 740 but no more. I need out. I can either get a 850 crashed and rebuild it . (this is cheap easy and I can costumize while rebuiding. or I can buy a used one for more money, and don't know nothing of.
What flaues or gliches does the 850s have. My mom has a friend and her 96 850glt has every dash light on ABS,SERVICE,TRACS,OIL . but it drives good.
any help appreciated.
Also if any one knows about converting a 850 auto - manual please give me a little info. I heard it can be done.
