ABS interchangability 850

Up to 95 the ABS control unit is completely different from the ABS units in 96-98, in 99 they were changed again. It is not possible to adapt an older (95 and earlier)unit to the newer design.
On the other hand, if you install a plain ABS Control unit from 96-98 in a vehicle with TRACS, the ABS portion of the system will work fine, the TRACS light will always be ON. I've done it a few times for testing purposes.

If you install an ABS unit with TRACS on a vehicle that is not equiped with TRACS, the TRACS light comes ON when you turn the ignition switch ON and then the light goes OFF after the initial self test.

Having said that, why would you want to replace your TRACS unit with one with no TRACS?

Here's more information on ABS issues.
