1994 850 VSS Speed Sensor 850 1994

Yes, that is the only code(2-3-2). After I swapped the instrument cluster and cleared the code, no code has been reset yet, even after it went through episodes of the shifting issue. The speedo did go right to zero and stay there a couple of times, can that happen due to the PNP? Also, since I took out the speed sensor yesterday and cleaned it doesn't seem to be as bad today(only drove about 15 miles so far), but it still looks as if the speedometer needle isn't responding quick enough to speed increases, and the shifts dont feel right. Is there a way to check the PNP for proper functionality even though it hasn't set a code? and when I was in there doing the VSS cleaning I did notice a bunch of road crud around the harness, but darkness set in and it started to rain (I dont have a garage) so unfortunatley I didnt get to clean that area up before reassembly, could that grime possibaly be a factor? (I didnt open the connections, just removed the sensor when I did the cleaning)

P.S. the tranny carries the numbers 50-42LE 93H W 87998 1208 776
Do any of them identify the year of it?
