Transmission/oil leak caused by vibration 850 1997

I have a 1997 850 GLT SW that has recently developed a transmission leak along with an oil leak. My usual mechanic couldn't diagnose the problem so I took it to another who specializes in European autos. He said he would take the transmission out and replace the seals at both ends, but then changed his mind fearing that once he got into the job fixing it would be beyond his capabilites at his small garage. He said that he thinks there is some vibration extending the whole length of the transmission and that is what is causing the leaks. I am at a loss about my next step. The closest dealership is 1 1/2-2 hrs away and I would be willing to take the car there but is some question about this possible vibration and if replacing the seals and the cost involved is worth it. Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks.
