Electrical fault 850 1996

Sounds like you hooked the posts up backwards. Is that a possibility? The cables aren't marked to well and if you got a battery from a non-european car the posts might have been reversed. Sometimes you end up frying the alternator diodes like that. Either way you're probably screwed. Now you'll probably have to trace down shorts and other burned up stuff. Maybe time to sell.
