S40 2001

There has been much discussion about premature brake wear on the 40 series cars. The interesting conclusion drawn from all of these cases is that there seems to be two groups of people with two different experiences. Those like yourself who have had endless problems, premature wear, and expensive repairs. Others, myself included, who have not experienced this type of problem. If you look through the history of posts on this topic there is a hypothesis that it is largely dependant on driving style. This is hard to prove and impossible to even verify but may hold some water. Agressive 'brakers' would very quickly wear the good performing but soft brake pads. If you did not have prior warning to watch for this wear the result would most probably be damaged rotors and subsequently high repair costs. Personally I had pads alone changed at 50K km's for 120Can both front and rear. Not too bad in my opinion.

My two cents

Cheers
