Fan motor V70-XC70 1998

My wife has a '98 V70 GLT that was purchased new and is well maintained. Recently, she was driving her car with the a/c on full blast and with the windows open for a period of time.
Shortly thereafter, the check engine light went on and now stay on and when she turns the car off after driving, the fan motor runs for at least 10 minutes, when it rarely, if ever, ran before this incident.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the problem or perhaps have experienced something similar? Thanks in advance. Fred.
