Car inexplicably won't start !!!

Hi,

I went into a convenience store this afternoon, came out, went to start my car (1995 850 T-5R sedan), and got nothing. When I tried to start the car the only things that were the doors locking, and a clicking sound coming from underneath the hood (the battery?). I tried jump starting the car three times, from different sources (2 cars and one portable), and still got nothing. Tried exiting the car, locking and unlocking with both the key and alarm, and still nothing. Tried shifting from park back to neutral and starting, then back to park and starting, still nothing. Eventually had to get the car towed. I've never had this sort of problem before, and the battery is only about six months old. Before this, the battery seemed fine- no trouble starting the car.

Not sure if this is an alarm related problem or not- I've had issues before where I've tried to start the car and the alarm would go off, but exiting the car and locking and unlocking manually would do the trick. I'm pretty sure the alarm is factory- the keyless entry remote is the black rectangular one with just an "Unlock" and "Lock" button that seems standard issue with this model Volvo. I'm really lost here and any clues or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ron
