Car won't start--help! 850 1993

If no crank, it may be electrical. Measure voltage DC across terminals, then from +BATT to -Ground (bare metal on body or engine block). If you see a big differene between voltage across terminals and voltage across +BATT to -Body then you need to un-hook, clean and reconnect your battery terminals.

If the car is cranking, stop cranking. LOL. Won't help - if these guys are in good order they fire right up. Now, check:

Air. I opened one air cleaner to find it populated with beetles (?). Yup. Beetles. It could be anything. Open your air cleaner and make sure you don't have some sort of obstruction. I've seen one filter fail and plug the intake with filter element. Sucked. Well, it didn't. That was the problem.

Anyhow. Check your plugs and fuel flow by doing two things. Crank once or twice, then get out, disco - Batt. Pull one wire and one plug. Check integrity of plug tip. If you smell fuel chances are you have fuel. It's unlikely that one fouled injector would shut the motor down. It could still be a clogged fuel filter or an electrical problem preventing spark.

Reassemble. Disassemble, inspect and reattach your plug wires. Do this with all 5 cyls, at both ends (one at a time). If your plugs look fouled, replace them. They're too cheap not to replace regularly. If you're hard-fouling plugs on a regular basis you're really puking oil, or you're way too hot.
