hestiation with my '97 850 850

I just took in my 1997 850 to have the front rotors and pads replaced, new front left control arm and have the headlight switch repalced. When I picked up the car, there was quite a bit of hestiation as I shifted through the gears -especially in 2nd gear. When I dropped off the car there was no hestiation.
The mechanic said he never lifted the hood but I think this is a too coincidental for another problem to pop the day I have the car worked on.

Anybody have any ideas on what the issue is?
