Nivomat Shocks 850 1994

I have a 94 Turbo Wagon with "sport Chassis option"& 1 rear shock is leaking at 150,000 km. (Handling was great before, and is still satisfactory). Volvo says Cdn$525 each for Nivomats.
Are the front shocks the same special thing i.e. "self levelling" with this option.
What will happen if I replace rear shocks and springs, but don't touch the front? Is there a cheaper aftermarket equivalent of Nivomat?
As I see it, my options are:
Try to find 1 or 2 second hand Nivomat rear shocks.
Buy second hand springs & shocks from wrecker and replace these with new Bilstein shocks if handling is too attrociously different from what it was.
Sell the damned car.
Any bright ideas please?
