something buzzing/running AFTER I shut of V40 S40-V40

I'm having some strange electrical stuff with a 2000 V40 (though I know they have a reputation for these problems).

For a few weeks, after we turned off the car, we would hear a humming/buzzing from the engine compartment. Hard to localize, but it seemed very loud in the front driver wheel well. Then, more recently, the alarm went off spontaneously, for about 20 minutes, then it stopped, and the battery was dead. We jumped the battery, but the buzzing persisted, and the next day the alarm went off, and the battery was dead again.

I've replaced the battery, but the buzzing continues after I turn the car off, so I imagine that in short time I'll be repeating this vicious cycle.

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance,
Jonas
