electric valve connected to wastegate 850

Hi all!

I had a 240 before, just bought a 850 turbo 1996 with a std transmission.

The boost guage was not going to the right half of the guage, like the turbo didn't put pressure to the intake manifold. I was hearing the turbocharger a little, but not very much. I was, too, a little stressed about that.

After a couple of minutes playing with the wires and pipes around the turbo, I discovered some kind of electrically actuated valve connecting the vacuum tube from the wastegate to other tubes... That valve was disconnected. I found the wire supposed to be connected to that valve hanging near the air filter. After reconnecting it: wow! the turbo really works now!

1- My question: what is that valve ? Is it supposed to turn on/off the turbocharger? Does it have another utility?
2- I also wanted to introduce myself to that board :))

thanks!
