Name that tune 850 1993

I think my 850 is making a noise that i think is getting worse. Without the aid of a soundbite i am going to do the best i can to describe it: As I press the accelerator and listen with the windows open, the sound the car is making sounds like paddles hitting the air in rapid succession. The harder i press down on the pedal, the more it sounds like paddles are whipping the air. The engine works great, but it's losing its sweet humm to this whipping sound. bbbbrrrrrrrrr. What do you think this sound is?
