Hmmm, Dan it's more likely that it is your 3rd bar - exhaust leak, and not your 2nd bar - peeling vinyl, because the sound seems to be directly relating to when i depress the accelerator. The sound quits, or at least reduces, when i take my foot off the accelerator and let her coast. The sound picks back up when i put my foot back down, and restarts each time i switch gears. 1st gear - bbbbrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRR, 2nd bbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRR, 3rd bbbbbrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...........

I'll take the car to the mechanic. If you're right, you win a round of applause :-)
