Radio button lights out - HELP V70-XC70 1998

My S70 has the same problem, the button on the right side of the unit are out. I read the resonse about the face plate coming off and replacing the bulbs. If you do this and it works will you reply back as my long time service manager says you have to replace the radio - I am out of warranty and was planning to live with the problem. Thanks, Tom
