1998 V70R Front end noise V70-XC70 1998

Here's a strange one: After my '98 V70R AWD warms up, after driving fast on the interstate for 20 minutes, I get a very strange, loud fluttering or rapid clunking sound when I turn hard left or right at low speeds. I cannot make the noise happen when the car is cold, only after warming up. Danbury, CT Volvo dealer said it was a ball joint and replaced it (for $378). But the noise is still there. In fact, it's worse sometimes. Took it back to danbury Volvo and now they say it's adrive shaft making the noise, and they want $785 to replace the shaft?
Am I gettin the shaft?
(This is the same dealer that told me to fix my check engine light that keeps coming on I would need a new gas cap ($26). That didn't work, then they told me I needed a new barometric sensor (Approx $300). That didn't work and they said I need a fuel filter ($125+-) and when the light came on almost immediately they told me I'd need to leave the car with them for the day . At $85/hr., I haven't left it for the day and figure I can live with the check engine light on because it doesn't seem to affect performance.)
The car has only 60K miles and it is driving me nuts, although it is fun to drive! ANy thoughts on Volvo mechanics in the Danbury, CT area? Thanks in advance, Kolledog
