V70 evaporator replacement

Hi out there, I've owned volvos for 10 yrs now but just discovered this site - fantastic. My query is that we were just told by dealer that the ac evaporator has a leak, which they diagnosed through dye method, and that the replacement would cost $1,400. The car is a 2000 V70 wagon, standard shift. Any suggestions other than the expensive replacement through dealer?
