How much Play in 850 5 SPD box 850

I am not sure if it has always been there, but I noticed almost 2-3 inches of play on my 5 SPD 1995 850 GLT, car has 100K, a new clutch (along with a new rear main). Runs pretty good.
Is that normal?
If not what is that an indication of?
What should be looked at the next trip to the shop?
