carbon build up in intake area 850

I was at the dealer today and they did my 100K servicing and took a look at the intake area via the throtle body and saw carbon build up. They said they can clean the intake area with some process and it runs about $79. I had it done since the car was already in the shop but did I buy some snake oil or is this a real help for the car? The car has had what I think is a stuck valve this winter(long start before firing up) and has had a couple of "lawn mower starts" as mentioned in past posts. Thanks.
