Ehh, based on that logic you shouldn't put luggage back there either, as it will interfere with the energy distribution in an accident and send the luggage into the passenger compartment as projectiles.

There's a gas tank under there too.

If I needed full-time 7 passenger capability, I would get a minivan, but for the occasional need, it's better than letting the kids sit on the floor or ride in the cargo comparment with no seat or belt, or any of the other potentially hazardous things that people do in a pinch.
