Lower grill mods - 98 V70R V70-XC70 1998

I am considering blocking the airflow through the two front lower outside grill/vents on my 98 V70 R. The grills are just to the inside of the fog lights. The airflow does not seem to do any good, except force roadspray, dirt and bugs up into the engine compartment. These grills do not provide airflow to the radiator, and they appear strictly decorative. Can anyone think of a reason why I should not block this airflow?

Thanks, Jon
