Air Cond. Noise and Repair 850

I've noticed that when I run the AC in my car that the compressor makes a bit of a rattling noise. The AC is a little weak anyways, so I'd like to fix it if I can afford to do so.

What's the chance of me just popping a can of refridgerant/oil into the system with one of those kits you get at Wal-Mart and everything being just dandy? Is the noise from the compressor terminal?
