Temperature Gauge Indicates Overheating... S40-V40 2000

Did they test and/or replace the temperature sensor in the thermostat housing?

It's the only probe and wire exiting from the front of the housing. This may be bad or flaky at best. When you do try to replace the stat, look at the probe inside the housing and see if it looks corroded, etc. I don't know the cost for a replacement but it can't be too much.
