So,Saturday my wife brings her XC into the dealer for 72K checkup and oil change. We pick the car up and drive about 200 miles to VT. By the time we get to VT the CRUISE CONTROL doesnt work. (Light comes on on dashboard but cannot set/hold speed and then system turns itself off.) By Sunday and another 200 miles we get an error Message saying "engine problem, bring to dealer." Just to be careful, I check oil level and it is **at least** 2 inches above the cross-hatched area on the DIP. I bring it to dealer, told him three things: Cruise, Error, and Oil overfill. He calls back and says the computer says we need a new "throttle" -an $1,100 job (or maybe part?). And, he says: your PCV and hoses need to be cleaned out. I say: do you mean "flame trap?" And he says yes. So, I ask him if he checked the oil. He says "Oh yeah. No. Let me call you back." On the next call he says "the mechanic says there's probably a quart too much oil; we'll drain some out at no charge, but we don't think it caused the problem." And I'm thinking can he spell "oil froth? and PCV system aspiration?" I think these are all related and would appreciate a second opinion? Also, is this problem likely to self clear? The error message has now turned off... And, does he mean Throttle Body? Fuel/Air computer? Oil Box? I've got 320K on my 740 and do all my own work. This is why!
