sold my 850 850 1996

Stay with the 70 series since you are familiar with the drivetrain from your 850.
Go go for the '98 GLT version(light pressure turbo), there are lots out there at a good price and you know what to watch for. And you are correct avoid '99-00 70 series because of that dreaded ETS failure.

An 850 or V70 wagon is not just a "wagon" but a sleek sportwagon. I am surprised the wife didn't care for it.
