I don't know if this helps, but my 1997 850 has an orange arrow pointing upward that illuminates if (1) the transmission is shifted into low gear, (2) winter mode is selected so the transmission starts off in second gear, or (3) a certain transmission fault has occurred. The only green arrows on my dash are to indicate turn signal functions :).
