Hot rear seat 850 1996

I am considering buying a 1996 850 Turbo wagon from a friend who is very concerned about selling to a friend. She claims that the rear leather seat heats up in the middle of the car and she fears a fire in the future. What could cause the seat to heat up? The car has 76K miles on it and they are purchasing a new XC90. They were about to trade this in to the dealer when I heard it was for sale. Please advise.
