I realize it is the hot time for the year, but there is a disturbing number of us who have a car that just won't cool down when it is over 80 outside. Someone on this board should have a good idea what is wrong. I can't believe it is the evaporator.
My problem:
On a hot day, I can start the car and the AC cycles normally. It cools off a little bit, then after a few minutes the air from the right vent goes to ambient temperature. The compressor clutch remains engaged and is spinning. The high pressure line is sweating and cold. the return from the evaporator is warm. The low pressure is at 45psi. When the car first starts, the pressure is 45 with the clutch engaged and drops to 25 when the clutch is released, building back to 45.
No feed back from the DTC. All appears to be normal, except the r134a doesn't appear to flow. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Is there too much coolant? If the clutch is spinning and the collant is not flowing, why does it work when the air temp is 75?
One other observation, if the engin rpm goes to 2500+, the clutch starts to cycle again instead of being on all of the time. The air still does not get colder at the vent.
What a great problem, too bad there isn't an apparent solution.
