Saga of the Throttle Module continues. V70-XC70 2000

The saga of the believed faulty throttle module on V70R AWD came to a head today with replacement of the unit under extended warranty at 137,000KM. Amount billed to warranty system: about $1000.00 CDN.

( 752.00 for module, 40.00 software download charge, gsket a few $, and about 2 hrs labour. How they get the sucker in there under the intake manifold I'll never understand. The poor tech really earns his pay on this one! ) Looking to the future, do any independent Volvo shops perform the hardware/software services associated with this module? Or does Volvo feel a sense of responsibility in cases where it fails again at 230,000KM? Anyone got such an experience?

Wonder if the module in its present location..see above..( attached to a big casting that gets very hot..and in the path of hot air streaming out of the rad ) is not amenable to long term survival? Guess I'm going to have to plan on replacing the thing every 125,000KM or so. Other potential Volvo owners who ask me will hear about this!

I note with interest after reading about bevel gear problems, looked at the Service schedule for the 2000 model, and it requires visual inspection of condition of the bevel gear at every second service interval!..about every 24,000 KM or 14,400 miles. Is there any way an owner without ramps or such devices can check condition of transmission oil? The manual makes no mention of it!!..just that the 5-speed automatic requires Volvo gear oil of a specific weight.

Any guidance appreciated!!

Thanks in advance to all readers!
