Are S60's really that reliable??? S60

You don't want to believe a survey that is based on thousands of respondents (consumer reports) but you are willing to believe a survey of just a few? The problem with trying to guess reliability issues from a forum like this is that while you know that someone has a particular problem, you don't know what percentage of owners are experiencing the problem.

As far as your question, "What is wrong with this industry?", I believe the Europeans want to be on the cutting edge all of the time, and in doing so, are embracing unproven, complicated technology. However, once a new model is brought out, and the factory identifies particular issues, changes can be made to improve the reliability. That may be be the reason why the S60, a model that has been around for a few years, shows an improvement in reliability. If you are an avid reader of Consumer Reports, you will know that their reliability survey identified problems with the S60 when the model was brand new, so this really isn't a case of "new cars don't break down, wait until it ages a little".
