V70 dies while driving........... V70-XC70 1998

Well, my mechanic is still learning the FWD Volvos. He mostly works on older RWDs as they're more common around here. Many S/V70s around here still get serviced at the local dealer, but as they get older people are getting sick of getting ripped off by the dealer and they end up at independent Volvo shops. Anyway, we didn't think the lifters had collapsed while driving, but nothing else can really explain it (sensor failure? > Should bring a code, right?). Each time the car has come in with this problem it has had spark, fuel, and no stored codes. It DOES lack engine compression when it refuses to start and sounds like the T-belt has snaped when it hasn't. Just like every other L5 or L6 Volvo engine that develops a lifter problem.....
