Need advice on purchase of a used C70 C70

I wanted to ask for advice in purchasing a C70. Which is the best bang for your buck combination in the year versus problem free area. Any concern I should look for when buying any year below 2000. I want to eventually tune the car to get the best performance. Basically, if you were on a budget but wanted the best out of a the car, which year, model and why. Thank you for all your knowledge.
